Is Shackin' in the Bible?

I was watching Episode 2 of Oxygen's new hit series 'Preachers of L.A.' and was taken aback by Deitrick Haddon's comment about shackin’ not being in the Bible. Shackin’, for my ebonically-challenged readers is an African-American colloquialism for when two unmarried individuals cohabitate. After Minister Haddon so passionately made that statement, before I knew it I was passionately shouting at my Android, 'Yes it is!'; though at the time, I didn’t know exactly where.

A few hours later I listened to the Playmakers® My Take about the subject and even had the opportunity to hear what the Twitterverse had to say about it being analogous to fornication. But in my spirit, fornication, which means premarital sex, just didn’t cut it for me. So I asked the Lord and in less than twenty-four (24) hours, He gave me an answer.

Go with me to Romans 13:13,

"Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness,

not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.’ (KJV)

The Greek definition of ‘chambering’ is 'cohabitation and cohabitation ‘is the act of living together and having a sexual relationship (without being married)1.' Vines Expository Dictionary® defines it as "primarily a place in which to lie down, hence a bed, especially the marriage bed and denotes illicit intercourse2." That’s shackin’! Why?

Because in that place, while cohabitating or chambering, folk are having illicit, unlawful premarital sex (fornication). Therefore, Romans 13:13 could read, ‘Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in [shackin’ or having unlawful, premarital sex while living together], and wantonness, not in strife and envying.’

Boy I tell ya; watch out about making statements about something ‘not being in the Bible’ because if you truly desire an answer, the Word will let you know.
