Childish Love

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child;but when I became a man, I put away childish things.’ - (1 Corinthians 13:11)

When you read the context of 1 Corinthians 13, from this verse, it's safe to say that there is a childish and an adult love. A child has a tendency to fall in love regularly; meaning, they attach themselves to toys, things, and people fairly quickly and without reservation. They don’t understand that thing may not be good for them and they don't comprehend that some of their friends are only in their lives for a season. But such is the case with some adults. Many remain in childish relationships.

Childish Relationships

A childish relationship is one that you entered into when you were spiritually immature. And though several years have passed, the relationship hasn't grown. Meaning neither of you have matured to the point where you don't allow the other to provoke you to behave rudely. (1 Cor. 13:4-8). This concept may be hard for you to grasp because your idea of a child is someone under the age of 12. But what you must understand is that in the eyes of your Heavenly Father, you are His child. And as such, you’re growing spiritually which means it’s time for you to stop playing with certain people.

You Play Too Much

Remember when your mother told you not to play with someone. At the time, you didn’t understand why; but as you matured, you realized she was right. The same principle holds true today. When you were spiritually immature, you fell in love, but there's something about that person that won't allow you to be the best you. They don't encourage, inspire, or motivate you anymore. They're critical and often indifferent. And at this point in your life, you cannot afford to keep them around, which means you're going to have to make an adult decision and stop playing with them in order to grow and go where God has called you for this season. (Wo)Man Up! Congratulations! You've finally matured to the point where you recognize that you have to put away childish things which also includes childish loves. And don’t get me wrong. It’s not that the person you fell in love with is a bad person. It’s just that you’ve matured spiritually which means you no longer love like a child and can no longer take being loved childishly. Someone has to be the adult and fortunately, God has chosen you. So (wo)man up! It's time to stop playing with their emotions and be grown enough to let them go, so that the two of you can grow; even it means apart.

Pray this with me: Heavenly Father, I know its time to leave, but I've been with ________ for years. They've been with me through the good, the bad and the ugly; but yet I know You want more for me. Though I don't totally understand why, I trust You enough to let them go. In Jesus' name.
